It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

By Iain Blair Thelma Schoonmaker and Martin Scorsese go together like Lennon and McCartney, or Ben and Jerry. It’s hard to imagine one without the other. Simply put, Schoonmaker has been Martin Scorsese’s go-to editor and key collaborator over the course of 23 films and half a century, Continue reading → March 28, 2017 The post Chatting with Scorsese’s go-to editor Thelma Schoonmaker appeared first on Randi Altman's postPerspective.

We caught up with Avid Chairman and CEO, Louis Hernandez Jr, while we were in Dubai recently. Sitting in a gloomy corner of an otherwise brightly lit Avid booth, we shot this exclusive video interview. Without giving away anything too specific, we look at NAB 2017 and beyond. As the editor for the Saturday Night Live Film Unit, Adam Epstein’s regular schedule is as hectic as it gets. Adam started at SNL in 2009 and has spent the last eight years feeding off that fast-paced energy to hone his skills and develop extremely efficient workflows. In Adam’s case, he had no choice but to adapt, but as he explains, you don’t have to work at SNL to develop these skills.

Bling Digital, which is part of the SIM Group, was called on to help establish the workflow on Legendary/Universal’s The Great Wall, starring Matt Damon as European mercenary imprisoned within the wall. Thunderbolt 3's recent success is good news for high-end post production. When Apple replaced their (then) high-speed Firewire 800 connections with Thunderbolt ports in 2011, pro users were happy with the many improvements. Sadly USB 3 turned out to be 'good enough' for the vast proportion of PC users. That prevented a competitive market for Thunderbolt devices. That meant external drives and capture card prices didn't come down significantly The situation didn't improve with Thunde...
