It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

On the day of the 2015 Oscar presentation ceremony, wouldn't it be good to watch an interview with all the nominees for the Best Film Editing award? The American Cinema Editors (ACE) and Moviola have very kindly published this hour and a half discussion recorded on Saturday featuring those editors in a Q&A session.

If you are in London at the BVE show on Wednesday, make sure you meet up with fellow FCPX editors on the Softron stand E25 at 4pm. There's beers to be drunk!

This reader Quicktip was sent to us by John Flanagen and it borrows the idea of a star-rating system on the Macintosh as a way to rate footage in your NLE. John uses this in Final Cut Pro X but you could utilize it in most any application that supports Special Characters.

In 1934 the Academy Awards introduced a new category: Film Editing, awarding an Oscar to Conrad A. Nervig for his work on the movie Eskimo. Often called “the invisible art,” editing has made movies possible since they first began, but the field still struggles to gain the appreciation from the general public that it deserves. At Adobe, however, we have always been big fans. To honor the art of film editing on the eve of the 87th annual Academy Awards, we’ve put together a quick visual...

The Oscars are less than 96 hours away, so you only have a limited amount of time to brag about your insane knowledge of Academy Awards history. Ready for a brutal 21-question foray into Oscar's grisly past? Let's roll.

Today we have another reader Quicktip for Avid Media Composer (these have been pouring in from the Avid editors out there) from Alain Dessauvage about an old favorite timesaver around Avid’s Trim Mode that I bet a lot of people don’t know.

Documentaries covering subject matter that happens within a generation usually divides the audience between those who personally lived through the time period and those who’ve only read about it in history books. The Black Panthers: Vanguard of the Revolution is one such film. If you are over 50, you are aware of the media coverage […]
