To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

The 10 Best Edited Films According To Editors Guil

February 6, 2015, 04:46 AM

http://www.cinemablend.com/new/10-Best-Edited-Film...

While it’s typically actors and directors who get to enjoy the greatest amount of praise through any year in cinema, certainly one of the greatest aspects of the award season is the opportunity to take a deep look at the below-the-line work that’s done to make the great films as great as they are. In this spectrum, editors play an incredibly vital role, as many filmmakers would tell you that it’s in the cutting room that a movie is truly uncovered for what it is.

Day 5 #28daysofquicktips - Move a Clip’s Connect

One fundamental concept of Final Cut Pro X and its trackless timeline is Connected Clips. When editing clips outside of a Primary Storyline all clips must connect to something in the Primary Storyline and they move according to that parent clip. But you can, thankfully (and mercifully depending on your POV), move that connection point.

In a fairly audacious move, rather than waiting to circulate his plans over the future of net neutrality to members of the FCC in the USA, Commission Chairman, Tom Wheeler, has given a statement outlining them to Wired. And, as the destination indicates, supporters of net neutrality have reason to be delighted. Net NeutralityFCCRegulator

A random bit of researching on a Tuesday night led me to something I didn't know existed: The Motion Picture Editors Guild's list of the 75 best-edited films of all time. It was a feature in part celebrating the Guild's 75th anniversary in 2012. Is this news to anyone else? I confess to having missed it entirely. Naturally, I had to dig in.

Immediately following her phone conversation with actress/director Angelina Jolie, Becky Sullivan started researching B-24 bombers. Jolie had just asked Sullivan to serve as the supervising sound editor (along with Andrew DeCristofaro) on her next project, Unbroken, Jolie’s Hollywood adaptation of the best-selling novel of the same name by author Lauren Hillenbrand ( Sea Biscuit).

Day 4 #28daysofquicktips - Override clip connectio

February 4, 2015, 06:08 AM

http://provideocoalition.com/ssimmons/story/day-4-...

One fundamental feature of Final Cut Pro X is the Connected Clip be they single video or audio clips or Secondary Storylines. Once you’ve made them and established those connection points Connected Clips will slide around and move as their parent clips are moved; be that via a trimming operation or click and drag. But there are times (quite possibly a lot of times) when you want the Connected Clips to stay put as you adjust the parent clip. The tilde (or grave accent) key comes to the resc...
