It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Sometimes sexism is exactly what you think it is. So picture this: last day of NAB 2014. I’m wandering around killing time before I needed to head to the airport. I have a horrible cold. I am over it. I … Continue reading →

You need to hear some things I’ve been hearing this week. I’ve been hanging with some crazy people. Authors, multi-millionaire entrepreneurs, movie moguls, you name it. One of them, a gentleman by the name of Peter Guber, said something especially worth passing on. Now Peter Guber isn’t some random shmuck – he’s the former CEO […]

So picture this: last day of NAB 2014. I'm wandering around killing time before I needed to head to the airport. I have a horrible cold. I am over it. I sit down at Quantel's booth (on squishy red squares) where a sharply dressed woman who was probably around my age (maybe, I'm bad at age guessing) was giving a very extensive demonstration of Pablo Rio, a highly specialized tool. I mean, there aren't even that many female editors in the world. Female Pablo demo artists? She MAY be the only one.

An important element of storytelling is the use of text and graphics. Often you’ll be asked to be creative when a visually poor story comes your way. A good video editor has ideas always ready to go; simple ideas. This story was produced over 15 years ago. The lesson is simple; graphic and text elements […]

David Fincher is back with another dark tale of modern life, Gone Girl – the film adaptation of Gillian Flynn’s 2012 novel. Flynn also penned the screenplay. It is the story of Nick and Amy Dunne (Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike) – writers who have been hit by the latest downturn in the economy and […]

I let myself get sucked into a click-bait blog article the other day and it got me thinking about what I had done. It was click bait for a number of reasons but the actual content of the majority of the article was a decent summary of the non-linear editing tools we have available. With a title like What’s the Best NLE Software for Professional Movie Editing? you know it might likely do downhill from the first click. The article came from a learning resource called Lights Online Film S...

We all like to be more productive with our time, and since we're all creatures of the computer, anything that helps either decrease our waiting time or that gives us more options is welcome. Here are 7 things that I've found to be very helpful in increasing productivity, and they're all less $100. Not all are computer related but they're extremely useful all the same.
