To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Garth Edwards is a super talent. He not only directs but is a very accomplished VFX artist. A few years ago Garth did a series of After Effects Tutorials called “A Guerrilla Filmmakers Guide to After Effects” Now it’s available for only $99. If you’re into After Effects this is a pretty impressive course at a very good price. Garth did this course after finishing the BBC drama ‘Attila the Hun’.

The dearth of popular female filmmakers makes us all the more grateful for Kelly Reichardt, a director who has made some of the most daring and beautiful films of the past decade and has since become an increasingly dominant force in independent cinema. She makes deceptively simple films--composed of quiet, minimalist surfaces pulsating with increasingly irrepressible uncertainty and loneliness. Mesmerizing and often cryptic, they offer the immersive experience of getting lost alongside wanderin...

Change Your Posture, Change Your Life

I'm not so sure about James's claim. Yes, your attitude has a strong effect on the quality and nature of your life. Waking up with confidence and a thirst to confront challenges will make for a happy and productive day. Rolling out of bed uninspired and plodding through daily tasks with a long face will not. That much is well established. Your attitude foretells almost everything about your life will go.

A couple of months ago, we released a video training course titled Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects: Enhancing Production Value. Some of the tricks in that course relied on using blending modes to add lighting effects from second footage layers that had color, abstract patterns and movements. There is a lot of stock footage available with these patterns; in the following video, we share some tips on creating your own:

Only a couple of weeks after his excellent video essay on Steven Spielberg and the Art of Oners, Tony Zhou is back with another excellent video, making a long overdue point and, in the process, praising one of the last comedy masters: Edgar Wright.

This isn’t a confession. There isn’t enough time in the day to address all of my issues. Despite all of my failings, I’m proud to say that I put myself in situations where I expect to fail. Yes, in a way, I try to fail. You might say that I’m very successful at failing too.
