It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Post production veteran and studio owner Walter Biscardi has opened The Creative Hub within his Atlanta-area facility Biscardi Creative Media (BCM). This co-op workspace for creatives is designed to offer indie filmmakers and home-based video producers a place to work, screen their work, meet with clients and collaborate. Biscardi has had this idea in the back of his head for the past few years, but it was how he started his post company that inspired The Creative Hub. After spending years ...

HitFilm 3 Express is a free version of Hitfilm 3 Pro. We suggest that everyone who edits video download it and give it a try. It’s not the most powerful NLE, but it is a very powerful compositing nad VFX tool. In fact, I would argue that rather then compare it to Lightroom, the correct Read More The post Is Hitfilm 3 the Lightroom of NLEs? appeared first on Videoguys Blog.

Last time we looked at reasoning animators might consider giving up on 2D/Hand-drawn completely and moving on to the future that is 3D/CGI animation. Today we take a look at a few more of these ideas and conclude with a possible justification for keeping the old “dead” art form around a little longer (aka, forever).

After Effects CC 2015 introduced a greatly overhauled previewing scheme, including the ability to edit your projects while previews are still playing back (discussed in our overview of the new release). However, many users have not gotten that far, instead getting tripped up on the way normal “let me just watch” previews work - leading some to declare it buggy or unpredictable. There were indeed a few bugs with it - many of them fixed by the recent update - but there may still be some g...

Business Insider reports that Apple are testing a voicemail transcription service that might debut in iOS 10: iCloud Voicemail can relay information about where you are and why you can't pick up the phone to certain people. But the coolest feature of the service is that Siri will transcribe any incoming voicemails, just like it does with anything else you say to it. […] Multiple Apple employees are currently testing iCloud Voicemail. Business Insider understands that if the service w...

As the UK’s publically funded broadcaster, the BBC is not allowed to endorse any specific product or service, either on air or in third-party publicity. That means that companies that make the tools that the BBC uses cannot get quotes from BBC members of staff that speak for the whole of the organisation. Avid cannot get a quote from BBC Studios saying “Over 90% of BBC Drama is editing using Media Composer.” They can refer to specific customers who do work for the BBC. This is true ...
