It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

I have to admit. This year’s NAB was like my Oscars. Normal people (like you and me) would go to the Academy Awards to do some “Stargazing”, as the expression goes. That’s what I feel that I spent almost a week doing. Star gazing. Yes, I was there for work, and work I did, but as we all know, NAB is much more than that.

By Tom Coughlin With all the 4K content being created for new media workflows and more demonstrations of higher frame rate, image depth, multiple camera projects and even higher future resolutions all that rich content has to live somewhere. The 2014 NAB gave some indications of the future of media archiving. There's nothing easy about roundtripping MXF files between Avid Symphony and DaVinci Resolve, especially if you want to keep handles intact. Longtime online editor Scott Freeman has come up with a way to actually make it easy, while automatically taming media management beasts. Best of all, the time savings are stunning: 8 hour conforms can be done in 4, and 40-hour media management marathons can be accomplished in seconds. Here are the steps for that, and so many other things that become possib...

Once again NAB 2014 was a very busy NAB. And once again I didn’t seem to venture very far out of the post-production-centric South Hall other than to head to the North Hall for teaching at Post|Production World. There was one visit to the GoPro booth but other than that the camera and acquisition-centric Central Hall was just a tunnel to the north. In addition to the winner and losers (which I’ll cover in just a bit) there were a few interesting things I noticed down south.

Avid is a tapeless beast that I want to tame. Victorious. Here is a working step by step example of my workflow-solution using an Avid Symphony Online Sequence Metadata to relink to Resolve Video Essence with Handles using MXF media files. This is an example if the User used the Avid Symphony to create the mxf media files with handles and the user would like to color correct using Resolve and then finish the online edit in the Avid Symphony all with handles.
