It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

By Randi Altman The series Cobra Kai revisits the 1980’s Karate Kid franchise to see what the two teenaged adversaries are up to as middle-aged men. Created by Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, Hayden Schlossberg, viewers are re-introduced to underdog Daniel LaRusso (Ralph Macchio), his childhood nemesis Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and the ruthless martial arts instructor John Kreese (Martin Kove). Codecs aren’t the most exciting thing to write about, but a recent update to After Effects included a tiny note that caught my interest. The DWA compression option for EXRs now includes a quality setting. It doesn’t sound like much, but EXRs with DWA have been my output / codec of choice for several years [...]Read More...

Replay: Feature films of days gone past were really quite grainy compared to the pictures produced by a modern digital camera. We didn't complain too much then and just accepted it as part of the look. Should we be placing less emphasis on noise if it means a more emotionally resonant picture is produced?

Building my own editing PC was always something I thought was just a little but outside of my abilities, but I was wrong. I’ve always admired those who built their own workstation. I’ve never been a gamer, at least not since the Atari and ZX Spectrum days of the 1980s, so I’d never watched any [...]Read More...

By Mike McCarthy How do you control your editing application? Whether you are editing in Avid Media Composer, Apple Final Cut, Adobe Premiere, Blackmagic Resolve or even Vegas, you are basically trying to communicate with a piece of software and make it very precisely alter a group of video clips. The more efficiently you can get the ideas from your mind into the software, Continue reading → September 21, 2021 The post Editing Interfaces — Why They’re Important appeared first on postPerspe...
