It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

One of the 8,000 things my kids are currently obsessed with is the Tom Cruise "Mission: Impossible" franchise. They've seen the franchise completely out of order, because I used "Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol" to win them over. By far, it's the best of the entire series, and they're already Brad Bird fans because of "The Iron Giant," "The Incredibles," and "Ratatouille," so when I showed it to them, all I had to do was tell them who made it.

Professional chefs have more in common with editors than you might think. My wife was recently listening to the audiobook version of New York Times best-selling author Anthony Bourdain’s book Kitchen Confidential. It’s a fascinating and entertaining look into the world of chefs and high-end kitchens. One of Bourdain’s diatribes raged against line cooks and […]

I’ve had a very busy summer shooting a television documentary for Aljazeera English. I can now reveal that it is called My Digital Addiction and it is part of their new autumn Correspondent series. The channel gives each correspondent an opportunity to pitch a story for development into a feature documentary. The Correspondent Series is in it’s third season and this year, Aljazeera are premiering my documentary at the first in the series.

Filmage: The Story of Descendents/All began as a passion project for a group of creatives working at Dallas-based post house CharlieUniformTango (CUT), and quickly evolved into a full-fledged documentary production. Within four years, the film's directors Deedle LaCour and Matt Riggle, along with editors Justin Wilson and James Rayburn, had traveled the world, combining a love for old-school punk music with filmmaking skills to deliver an indie flick that recounts the history and influence ...

Sometimes you just can’t shoot on a tripod. Heading to the set or into the field without a tripod? Getting beautiful handheld shots can be a difficult challenge – the recent influx of camera stabilizers and Steadicam equipment is a testament to that. Thinking out your approach to handheld shooting and taking several of the approaches listed below can significantly minimize camera shake.

I’ve been the product manager for Adobe Premiere Pro for four years and have never been more excited to work with our product teams and customers as I am now. Most of you know by now that Premiere Pro CC was used as the exclusive NLE for David Fincher’s Gone Girl, the first Hollywood feature film shot in 6K. While you may already know how Premiere Pro helped the Gone Girl team work more efficiently, you likely don’t know how us working with the Gone Girl post-production team helped us ...

If I seem to be going 3D LUT crazy lately it is for a very good reason – right now I am learning to use Resolve 11 and in the process am noticing the similarities and differences between color grading movies and enhancing the color of photographs.
