To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

A music tech guru out of Austin, TX., has invented an extremely versatile device that’s part theremin, part synthesizer, and part visual controller called the M!ltone (pronounced mill-tone). Developed by Milton Villeda, this Frankenstein monster of art and technology lets the user create music, as well as enabling manipulation of video, lights, all with the wave of your hand. The device hit Kickstarter on August 9 with a $5,000 pledge goal, and it’s already funded, raising close to $6,300 wi...

A Bunch of Random Hard Drive Speed Tests

August 28, 2014, 03:36 PM

http://provideocoalition.com/ssimmons/story/a-bunc...

As a freelance editor I get a lot of hard drives sent to me with footage to edit. Usually all of that media is transferred off of those hard drives and onto a RAID for editing. Occasionally I might have a quick turnaround or just fixes on a project and I’ll cut right off the hard drive sent to me. The faster the drive the better for both of these tasks. I’ve been keeping a running log of hard drive speeds for the last few months and with the help of Blackmagic’s Disk Speed test I offer...

Why Avid is No. 1 in Hollywood

When Premiere and Final Cut users try to convince Avid editors that they are living in the past, they often don't understand the day-to-day experience of high-end TV and feature film post production. To provide an insight into why Avid is still number 1 in Hollywood, Chris Fenwick invited TV editor Austin Flack to talk on his Final Cut Pro X podcast: the FCPX Grill. If you don't have the time to listen to the whole 74 minute episode, here are my notes on what was said: [6:05] AF: I’...

Voice Tips & Tricks: Drop-In Animation

Even though Voice automatically incorporates unique motion graphics with every theme, the drop-in animation effect allows you even more control over how your images or icons appear. Drop-in animation makes it look as if an object dropped down or rose up onto a page, and is a great way to add an element of surprise within your story. You can use this trick to show different steps in an explanation of a concept or just use it for dramatic effect on particular points you want to emphasize. V...

SmartSound has made some great advancements in their software plug-ins for Adobe Premiere Pro and After Effects since I did my last how-to tutorial two years ago and posted here on ProVideo Coalition. I just recreated two new short video tutorials and wanted to share them with you here, to show you just how easy this NEW round-trip method is to create/edit music soundtracks for your video/animation projects starting inside your video production apps.
