To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Last week I had an interesting situation come up.  I was working on a commerical for Tom Cruise's "Edge of Tomorrow", and I needed to make a small revision to some text.  I didn't want to go into After Effects to do it, but my problem was, is there a simple way to take my BCC AE look, and quickly get it into Media Composer?  Well guess what, there is!  In this exclusive PVC tutorial, I'll show you how simple it is!

The Media Browser in Logic Pro is one of those cool features that Apple came up with at some point, implemented it, but then forgot to tell us about it, or tell us how to use it. Maybe you came across the Media Browser in Logic Pro X or even in other apps, but chances are, you’ve never used it. You might even ask yourself why to use it in the first place. Let’s find out.

If you admire the animation of Pixar and are interested in getting your hands on the same software that they use to create all of those adorable characters (and not so adorable ones too, I guess), you are in luck, my friend. Due to a pricing restructure, the powerful VFX/3D rendering program RenderMan will be available for non-commercial use — for free — containing literally every single feature and capability of the commercial version, giving users (mostly) free rein to cut their teeth on t...

Avid Media Composer | Software v8

http://digitalfilms.wordpress.com/2014/05/31/avid-...

At NAB Avid presented its Avid Everywhere concept. While Everywhere is a over-arching marketing concept, involving “the cloud”, storage, asset management, a marketplace and more, for most independent editors, Avid is all about Media Composer and/or Pro Tools. Given that, there’s very little in the Everywhere concept that affects these users. The most salient part […]

Photo: Jonel Hanopol License: Creative Commons As a video platform, we move tons of data to and from our clients. Unfortunately, sometimes people don’t achieve the speed they are expecting with an upload or a download. We’ve put together this guide to help you understand some of the factors that affect connection speeds. To start looking at the different factors, we’ll begin with your computer and move out from there towards the servers at the other end of your upload or down...
