It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

It’s time to talk about color correctors. In this post, I’ll compare Color, Resolve, SpeedGrade and Symphony. These are the popular desktop color correction systems in use today. Certainly there are other options, like Filmlight’s Baselight Editions plug-in, as well as other NLEs with their own powerful color correction tools, including Autodesk Smoke and Quantel […]

The first time I was asked to be a leader was when I was a kid playing follow the leader. I would only lead for a few seconds and then call out someone else to lead. I hated the pressure of everyone looking to me for direction. I would break away from the crowd and go on my own to play something else.

The reflections in your control room represents the sound of your room. What sound do you ideally want from your control room? Do you want all the direct sound or straight line sound from your speakers? Do you want to include the sound of the reflections from the room in your mix? If so, how much of the room sound do you want?

FxGuide chats with Flame artist/owner Sam Edwards, who spent eight months working in the production offices on vfx for the new TV series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. Edwards composited almost 250 shots, which was approximately 1/6th of the show. We cover a bit of background on the job and then Edwards provides an overview of several shots he work on for the series.

Todos los que nos dedicamos al mundo del audiovisual conocemos la importancia del sonido en cualquier tipo de producción. Detrás de una buena continuidad, de una escena emotiva, de una promo, hay un buen sonido.

By now, pretty much everybody has seen and social media'd last week's epic Saturday Night Live sketch, The Beygency. It was a potent jab at the almost suffocating unanimity of Beyoncé-fandom, and what happens when one man--episode host Andrew Garfield--dares to be lukewarm on Queen Bey. As viewers watched the sleek sci-fi parody unfold, though, what they didn't see is just how much work goes into making a film of that caliber in less than a week and editing it for airing on national television.
