It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Now after just returning from the NAB Show 2014 and having the opportunity to not only see the new Mac Pro, but also play with them, my feeling is Apple has done it again. Created something for design first, practicality second. Consider who the Mac Pro is really designed for.

Among mix engineers, it's debated whether it's a good idea or not to use processing across the mix bus. Mix engineer Koen Heldens (Beyoncé, Lil Wayne, Timbaland, Missy Elliott and Rihanna) resides in the camp that advocates mix bus processing. Here's his go to mix bus setup for a modern pop/urban radio sound!

Though director Zack Snyder’s Superman redo Man of Steel proved to be a slightly divisive film, one of the highlights that most can agree on is composer Hans Zimmer’s score. Following in the footsteps of John Williams’ iconic Superman theme was no easy task, but Zimmer succeeded in crafting something wholly separate from the 1978 classic that helped reinvent Superman for our modern age. It also marked a shift for Snyder, who had collaborated with composer Tyler Bates on all of his previous...

Offline editing can be a lifesaver. At some point in their career, video editors will face a project with footage that weighs in at a hefty size, testing the technical limits of the edit bay. They may find themselves away from home, out in the field, and dare it be said, required to edit a major project on a laptop. Offline editing gives video editors the flexibility they need to respond quickly and get the job done.

There was my main iMac, which I love. Then there was my “power” laptop, a mid-2010 15-inch MacBook Pro (with the 1680-by-1050 display and a recently installed 750GB SSD), which I love. And there was my “light” laptop, a mid-2012 11-inch MacBook Air, which I love (and which replaced an older 11-inch Air). So what was the problem?
