To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

I love shortcuts and having them all mapped out on a keyboard is super helpful. Logickeyboard now has an updated model for DaVinci Resolve 12 adding all the video editing shortcut keys into the updated keys. I like Logickeyboard keyboards a lot. They have a solid feel to them and last a long time. At work I have a FCP 7 keyboard still! Boy do I need a new keyboard or what 😀

Mobile devices have become quite powerful since the original iPhone was released in 2007, but there’s at least one creative task that will forever require the horsepower of a desktop computer: Video editing. With their finite storage capacities and need for touch control over the UI, modern smartphones and tablets seem ill-equipped for anything but home movies—but developers continue trying to push the boundaries of what’s possible.

The editing suite is not only the place where every film is crafted, but this is where the emotional truth in an actor’s performance comes to life and the pace of how the audience feels emotionally throughout entire film is set. Editing is often referred to as the invisible art of filmmaking whereas film editors must creatively work with different layers and palettes of images, dialogue, music, pacing, as well as the actors’ performances to effectively recreate and sometimes even rewrite the...

A video editor puts this tablet to the test By Brady Betzel If you’ve ever used a Wacom Intuos tablet or Cintiq, then you know how efficient they can make your workflow, regardless of your job title. I’m a video editor, and after using a Wacom Intuos 5 I immediately noticed less wrist pain when compared to using a mouse. Wacom makes very high-quality products that do not disappoint. The Wacom Cintiq Companion 2 is a tablet with the power of a laptop, coupled with the precision of com...

After Effects Hidden Gems Weekly: Layer Styles

We use drop shadows all the time in motion graphic design, along with the occasional bevel or glow. The standard AE Effects to do this are pretty basic. What if we told you there were a far more versatile shadow, glow, and bevel available, for free, already inside After Effects?
