It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Today is the day when one of the bigger announcements from NAB 2010 hits the streets (at least it’s supposed to be up for download this afternoon). To call Avid Media Composer 5.0 a useful tools for editors is a bit of an understatement I suppose ... kind of like calling a wrench and socket set merely useful for a mechanic.

I love Macs. They’re like my car. I put the key in the ignition, turn it, and it starts. I don’t need to hunt down drivers for all the components that come with it when it arrives from Apple, because Apple takes care of all that.

The editing world has become a strange place. For professional editing applications, we have Apple and Adobe with their flagship bundles Final Cut Studio 3 and Creative Suite 5 respectively (and yes, there is Vegas, but I do not consider it to be a professional editing application as none of the major broadcasters are editing with it), and then there is Avid, with their flagship editing application, Media Composer. Avid, and Media Composer, have been around a long time.

Post World is a new blog added to the blog roll. Here's what Mike says in his about section: I’ve been working in the Los Angeles television and film industry for over 30 years, in both the production and post production segments of that industry. Having started out in the post facility end of the business in 1978 as a videotape operator, I progressed within a few years to telecine work, primarily mastering of feature films.

Some of the posts on this blog are product reviews covering various hardware and software applications used by video professionals. For the sake of full disclosure, you should know that many of these products are seeded or loaned to me for evaluation from the manufacturer in my capacity as a contributing editor with the magazines.
