To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

I like the fact that both AVID MC and FCP show this in the Viewer (Preview monitor in Avid MC) and Canvas (Program Monitor in Avid MC) when you are missing media.

In this episode, we’ll create a nice Glow transition using a Boris Continuum Complete Effect that ships with Media Composer.

Changing Landscape of CS5 for Broadcast Pt. 2

As I spoke previously, the landscape of broadcast has been changing. That perfect storm of change is forcing broadcasters to think differently about the how’s and why’s to get media out.

Why is Metadata so Important?

I have recently been scanning in slides and negatives from my young adult days, and I’m really wishing I’d entered more metadata at the time. That would have been too easy. Anyway, I thought it was worthwhile examining the different metadata I found/used in indexing these old slides.

Useful Tools For Editors: Beauty Box

Can’t afford a makeup artist? Have an interview subject who’s skin is just a bit too rough after getting the footage back to edit? Then you might be in need of Beauty Box from Digital Anarchy.

Avid MC to FCP for Color

May 12, 2010, 04:13 PM

http://lfhd.net/2010/05/12/avid-mc-to-fcp-for-colo...

I had today off. Because we had more footage to import (another shoot day), and the producer needed to get her bearings. So I went to the dentist (which everyone should do on a day off, I suppose...right?), and then saw Iron Man 2...

Absurdity of Pigeonholing Across Mediums

May 11, 2010, 04:12 PM

http://www.evanschiff.com/bd/articles/the-absurdit...

Since starting this blog last year I’ve mostly stayed away from writing product reviews, compression tests, opinion pieces, etc. There are more than enough editing blogs out there that do a much finer job on a more regular basis than I could ever hope to. Every once in a while, though...

Hand Held Hollywood has a report from NAB 2010 on the Vericorder 1st Video app for the iPhone 3GS. It’s a full-featured non-linear editor for the device with a featureset that you simply must see to believe. Watch the video below.

Editing on the Iphone

There’s another entry into the iPhone video editing app category that has just hit the iTunes app store in the last day or so. VeriCorder Technology’s 1st Video (which I previewed here thanks to HandHeld Hollywood just after NAB) aims to one up the previous king of iPhone video editors, ReelDirector, by providing a bit more functionality and moving it beyond a novelty or a toy.

CS5 and HP Hardware is the Fast Line

During the recent National Association of Broadcasters show in Las Vegas, I had the opportunity to present Adobe Creative Suite 5 in the HP booth. I was very excited to get my hands on a fully loaded HP Z800 Workstation and test just how fast Premiere Pro CS5 and After Effects CS5 would run...
