It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Tracey Ullman's comedy sketches are often a barometer of the cultural zeitgeist. Her current show, Tracey Ullman's State of the Union, is the latest forum for the Emmy award winner to showcase her uncanny impersonations and hilarious skits in a satirical look at a day in the life of America. Her unique take on the country's celebrity-obsessed, 24/7 news culture is one step ahead of viewers' expectations with the kind of searing and irreverent insights that keep audiences laughing and coming...

Whether you are directing, supervising or compositing a greenscreen shoot, you know that certain rules need to be followed to keep the post pain to minimum. The garbage in, garbage out adage applies.

Yesterday I shot a political spot with Simon Sommerfeld, a friend who saved the day after I pitched the concept for this no-budget spot to an agency that then said, "We’ll take it—make it as fast as you can for no money."

Effects production can fall into several categories. There are effects which dazzle the eyes and send stimulating impulses to the brain - and then there is repair work, whereby effects are used to fix problems which could otherwise destroy valuable footage. Rick Young demonstrates effects production in Final Cut Pro, using no third party filters and no other applications. Recorded live at the LAFCPUG Meeting, April 29, 2009.

"3-D is easy. Just remember to do everything––perfectly––twice," jokes picture editor Ed W. Marsh. At the Producers Guild of America’s recent "Produced By" event, a visionary imaging and entertainment conference held at Sony Pictures Studios in June, Marsh joined a panel of 3-D experts representing every step of the stereoscopic workflow. The panel, titled "A New Dimension," offered a wealth of advice for 3-D producers on team-building, as well as demos of products and techniques...

I wanted to share a little work in progress file. I find After Effects tremendously useful for resizing video. In fact I use it often to pre-process footage before applying additional codecs.
