To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Premiere Pro Tips for FCP Editors

I use the Enable/Disable clip toggle often on B-roll when I want to see what is on the track below. Generally It is a bad idea to turn off a clip and leave it off, as it will not render. For that reason I tend to turn it off and then turn it back on when I'm done. By default Premiere Pro does not have a shortcut for Enable Clip.

Apple's iMovie will now work on your iPad 1!

File this one under "whaaa?" There was a time when Apple's consumer grade video editing app, iMovie (USD4.99), was unavailable on the original iPad. If you wanted to bask in the app's cheesy glory, you were required to own an iPad 2 (presumably due to the extra strain on the processor). But, with the release of iMovie 1.3, that restriction has been lifted! Soccer moms rejoice!

Final Cut Pro X can use clips with non-square pixel aspect ratios. However if QuickTime movies don't have the correct flags set internally, there is no way to tell Final Cut that a clip's pixels are anamorphic.

Character Driven vs. Plot Driven

March 20, 2012, 03:47 PM

http://masteringfilm.com/character-driven-vs-plot-...

Character Driven vs. Plot Driven You will often hear films described as either character-driven or plot-driven. I think this is a false dichotomy. All films are character driven. All films have plot. These labels tell something, it's true, about emphasis. And, for the most part, it's become something of a commonplace that smaller, independent films...

Recently, a commenter here made me aware of the Mobiola webcam app. I was very excited to purchase the app from the app store and check it out despite a few bad reviews and ratings there. I downloaded the Mac OS X application, and it worked very well, offering me a "1920×1080" mode...
