It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is one of summer’s guilty pleasures. The follow-up to director Michael Bay’s 2007 blockbuster Transformers, the film has everything that audiences crave in their warm-weather entertainment. "What’s not to love?" says associate editor Calvin Wimmer. "There are giant robots, action, and it’s funny. I just saw the IMAX version. Having that 50-foot screen filled with robots was absolutely amazing."

So many robots! That was one of the big challenges for the editors on Michael Bay's Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. But thanks to a workflow established on the original Transformers film, the CG robots were a manageable challenge, according to associate editor Calvin Wimmer, who worked with editors Roger Barton, Tom Muldoon, Joel Negron, Paul Rubell and Glen Scantleberry. Wimmer (who also voiced one of the Decepticons) describes his role as a liaison between Bay and the visual effects...

As all the major NLEs continue to develop and claw for market share, their feature sets and capabilities have increasingly become quite similar. The key differences between NLEs, aside from price and "IMHO," are in the interface and workflow design.

Age can sometimes be an impediment to inspired filmmaking, but Francis Ford Coppola, who recently turned 70, has tackled his latest endeavor with the enthusiasm and creativity of a young film school graduate. The film Tetro opened June 11 in New York and Los Angeles and will enter wider distribution in the weeks that follow. Coppola set up camp in a two-story house in Buenos Aires and much of the film was produced in Argentina. This house became the film’s headquarters for production and post....
