To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

In this tutorial, Andrew Devis shows how to create parallax with a single item. Parallax is when items in a image appear to move in different ways to other parts of the same image. For example, the foreground items in view appear to move at a different speed or perspective to the background items in that same view.

By now most of you have heard that Apple has re-introduced Final Cut Studio 3 for sale after a lukewarm reception to Final Cut Pro X. Well, they sort of have re-introduced it. As stated in this MacRumors article, you must call the order directly in to Apple. It is not available through any standard retail or VAR channel.

Most editors tend to finish their projects completely within a given NLE application. They may use software like Boris Red or Apple Motion for segments, but in the end, all the final assembly, color correction and finishing is done inside Final Cut Pro, Media Composer or another NLE.

Apple's recent obsolescence of Final Cut Studio has forced a lot of us to reexamine which editing platform we want to use for future work. Ironically, Adobe Premiere Pro is a much easier transition for FCP 7 users than Final Cut Pro X due to its similar interface, support for old FCP projects and ability to use FCP's keyboard shortcuts.

This product is not on the consumer Apple website. You have to call 1-800-MY-APPLE. According to the representative… she says that there's been A LOT of calls asking for it to go back on sale… so she was glad to be able to sell it again (instead of telling people no).

Assigning Tracks to Audio Channels

Once we set up multiple track output, we now need to assign each audio track in the Timeline to a specific output channel. Finding this setting, however, is completely unintuitive.
