To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

What Display Should I Buy? An Opinion Piece...

Lest you later accuse me of false advertising, I'm admitting right now that I'm not going to tell you what you should buy. Rather, I'll deliver an epistemological monologue about choosing monitors that may accidentally be helpful to you. I welcome comment, especially from those of you who are genuine color scientists. Just please be nice to each other.

Review: KiPro vs. HyperDeck Shuttle 2

November 16, 2012, 07:11 AM

I recently recorded a panel discussion for a local election. Therefore I had to record a 2 hour sequence. For me the recorder was an important piece of this production, so I kept it redundant. I bought one HyperDeck Shuttle 2 from Blackmagic along with a SSD drive. This little box can record uncompressed Quicktime as well as DNxHD. In the meantime it also supports Apple ProRes HQ (at the time of the production it didn't).

Cinema Tools: About ASCII characters and database

November 15, 2012, 10:14 PM

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3676

Most fields in a Cinema Tools database record expect you to enter only standard English ASCII characters. Entering specialized characters, such as alternative letters from a non-English language or double-byte characters, reduces the ability of some features in Cinema Tools to function properly.

Undead hits The Walking Dead (shooting on film) and The Vampire Diaries (shooting with ARRI Alexa) are both shot near Atlanta, GA, and both rely on Crawford Media Services for dailies for two very different workflows, one revolving around the ARRI Alexa, the other around Super 16 film.
