To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

If anybody was laboring under the illusion that the big internet service providers are benign giants who want us all to share in the democratic bounties of the net, a small article in yesterday’s NY Times should serve as a cautionary reminder that we ain’t living in Mayberry.

I have to admit that I’m a bit embarrassed that we’re nearing the end of January 2011 and I’m just posting this summary of all the Useful Tools for Editors (and other post-production disciplines as well) that we talked about throughout 2010. But better late than never, so here goes:

What $300 Buys These Days

One of those "I sure hope this is true" stories... The story goes that it was produced for the princely sum of $300. Now obviously, for that to be true everyone worked for free, and all the sets, cameras, and editing was tossed in gratis as well. But it looks really great, and kind of holds a funhouse mirror up to stories like "X-Men" and the like.

As I’ve mentioned I am writing my first book, Cut by Cut: Editing Your Film or Video. I need to update a bunch of the photos. It’s been hit and miss with manufacturers – and some of their photos are unusable because they’re for marketing, not illustrating. I would love to get your photos. If you give your permission to use the photos I will give you photo credit.

Okay, so it’s been a while since I’ve written because I’ve been just too busy. In that time, I’ve traversed the country multiple times for work and that thing they call a life that I try to fit in between projects.
