To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

The 3rd edition of our book After Effects Apprentice ("AEA3" for short) is now available, and we're really happy with how it turned out. We've included PDF excerpts from several of the lessons on our web site. Many of the exercises will be familiar to teachers and owners of previous editions of the book, but we've also updated it extensively – particularly the latter lessons – to show off the new features introduced in After Effects CS6...

Questions Clients Ask Video Editors

September 14, 2012, 04:50 PM

http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/CrewsControlPodcast...

If you are an editor you have heard one of these questions. Can you write 20 minutes of an uncompressed QuickTime video onto a data DVD? If you have 5 minutes of video can you compress it and email it? If you have an original program shot at 720p, 24fps can you master that program to D-5 tape? If you have a 4:2:2 master can you create a master that is 4:4:4? Can you put multiple frame rates on one tape? Rocky and the Accord...

Thanks to Apple's product development directions, the current status of all things related to the Final Cut ecosystem has professional editors a bit rattled. One by-product of this is concern over whether it is wise to master final files in one of the ProRes codecs. This concern leaves the door open to other codec options...

Cast Away!

http://cuttingroomtales.wordpress.com/2012/09/11/c...

Some thoughts on audition technique ? Casting can make or kill your film. Get the wrong actors for the roles and your audience will be watching the lighting. Even if you get the right actors for each part, but they don't gel with each other: the audience will start planning their weekend shop.  It's vital...
