To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Software piracy. Nobody likes to talk about it, but let's be frank; it's a thing. And when a company like Adobe comes out with an all-encompassing software package like Creative Suite 6, which can cost several thousand dollars (Creative Suite 6 Master Collection is about USD2500, and Creative Suite 6 Production Premium is about 1800 USD), some people are going to choose to steal the software. You know it, I know it, and Adobe knows it...

Working with multicam in Adobe Premiere Pro CS6

I'll be the first to admit that while multi-camera editing tools have been available in Adobe Premiere Pro for quite a while I hadn't ever touched them until Premiere Pro CS6. I think that may be true for a lot of editors when it comes to a lot of features of Premiere Pro in general. While I had used Premiere Pro on sort of a semi-regular basis since CS4, CS6 has become a regular tool. I finally gave Premiere Pro's multicam a shot recently... and it's very nice. It works well...

At some point during a recent edit that is comprised mainly of stock video I came across an incredibly handy "extension" for Adobe Premiere Pro CS6 that can search and download stock media from Pond5. It's an incredibly handy way to browse not just stock video but also music and sound effects.

The Cloud: What's It All About?

When I query a technical audience for what percentage utilize the cloud daily, maybe half the hands go up. In reality, all the hands should be way up. Maybe some are forgetting how universal the cloud is today with Web services of email, search, social, video, messaging, docs, personal storage and so much more. Who can go through a day without touching any of these?
