It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Edelson, who previously cut reality-based shows such as The Osbournes, Top Chef and Project Runway, as well as episodes of The Office and MTV's The Hard Times of RJ Berger, and Cooper cut on Avid Media Composer 5.5. The cameras' memory cards are transcoded by Red Sky Pictures, then Avid XML files are ingested into the Media Composers where the editors do a low-resolution offline. Their assistants conform the show at DNx115 resolution. Color timing is handled by HTV Illuminate; final color...

From a producer's perspective, you know your technical specs, you may know exactly what camera you want, you know what you are shooting (interview, documentary, b-roll, green screen, etc) and how it will be shown, but you are generally not concerned with how your material gets from the camera to editor. If you ask your editors what they want as a deliverable, generally they are going to ask for a plug and play file.

The technology to make create instant files directly from a tape-based camera is not new. Many companies have been marketing devices since tapeless cameras first camera out. But as the market becomes more refine, the devices become more intuitive. AJA has been one of the leaders in this market, and their most recent device, the Ki Pro Mini is no exception.

I've received a number of questions about what’s new in the DNG 1.4 specification that we posted earlier this week. If you're not comfortable diving into the 101 page document, here's a quick summary with a few of the potential implications of the new enhancements to the file format.

But while it's true that more people than ever can afford to make top-end video, this new capability poses a few questions for the ideal editing workflow. The pictures from the latest generation of cameras - and that includes DSLRs and dedicated video camcorders - are stunning. No one expected to be able to get pictures this good for so little money.
