It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

The visual effects work for The Coen Brothers' Hail, Caesar! involved an unusual blend of making cutting-edge CGI look old-school. That's because the film takes place during the golden age of Hollywood--the 1950s--when special effects like matte paintings and miniatures were de rigeur. Since the movie incorporates several different other genre films within its narrative, the visual effects team was tasked with recreating a number of different looks.

By Randi Altman While VFX Legion does have a brick-and-mortar location in Burbank, California, their team of 50 visual effects artists is spread around the world. Started in 2012 by co-founder and VFX supervisor James Hattin and six others, who were weary of the old VFX house model — including large overhead and long hours away from family — the virtual studio was set up to allow artists to work where they live, Continue reading →March 17, 2016

Ludwigsburg, February 9, 2016. FMX 2016 has coined its main theme for this year’s edition: “Blending Realities.” Following this headline, FMX creates a space to analyze, discuss and try out the realities of others in Art, Technology and Business. What are the mindsets and conceptualization methods of my own and neighboring industries, which pipelines and distribution models are available? In thinking outside the box, FMX brings together people from across different sectors so they may disc...

I am perfectly willing to admit that there are nights where I lie awake pretending my feet are pilots sitting at the cockpit a spaceship constructed entirely of a blankets. Night after night left foot and right foot engaged in epic space battles for the liberty of humans against evil space robots bent on destroying the Federation.

Believe it or not, Ryan Reynolds does not possess a superhuman healing factor in real life, as far as we know. So it follows that his incredible action sequences in Deadpool had to be done via a combination of practical effects and computer-generated wizardry. Filling in one portion of the amazing VFX work on this film was the special effects company Atomic Fiction, whose latest work is now on display both in the theatrical release of Deadpool and in a newly released behind-the-scenes featurette...
