It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

I received an email from Gordon Burkell, mastermind of AOTG (Art of the Guillotine), a Canadian website for editors that I've posted about and recommended before. Just in time for the holidays, AOTG has brought out app aimed solely at editors. And it's free. Currently available iPad and iPhone, Burkell told me that he is [...]

There's bound to be a lot of expectation when you go on stage with a presentation entitled 10 things you might not know about Final Cut Pro X. Victor Maldonado gets a grilling, but that's not why we are posting the video.

We nearly fell off our Aerons when we saw the FCPX GUI poster frame to this quick tutorial. We have wanted decent PPM meters in FCP ever since we owned our first copy. There's good news and bad news though.

Andrew Kramer was back with a new tutorial compositing stock elements and custom particles to build a wizardly blast, and a ripple effect to distort the background around the explosion. As a bonus, Video Copilot decided to release over 25 1080p smoke effect elements for free. Andrew has done a number of explosion and energy tutorials; here's another one...

Yesterday while in the middle of a huge back-up, the power went out. My drive (which was not on an Uninterruptible Power Supply) went down…. hard. After a reboot... things did not look good. The Drobo Dashboard saw the drive… but my Mac wouldn't mount it. No disk repair program would bring it to life…

In this tutorial for the Premiere Pro Video Adrenaline series, Richard Harrington talks about how to control time inside Premiere Pro. There are many options to change the speed of clips, including the rate stretch tool, time remapping to achieve a variable speed value, and using After Effects own remapping abilities to fine tune your results.
