To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Story Is Not Enough

I was wandering in an old bookshop the other day when, amidst a pile of old books, I discovered an especially thick one with a photo of a gorgeous house on the cover. Removing it from the pile and opening the book, I saw it contained the blueprints to build the house shown on the cover. All the plans I needed to build the perfect house were contained in that book.

Syncing Audio in Resolve 9 Lite

Happy Sunday. It's a beautiful one here in NY so can't wait to get on my bike. That said, this will be quick. Whenever I spend an aggravating amount of time trying to figure something out, I feel that it's a worthy topic for a blog post. I've been checking out the Resolve 9 Lite Beta and couldn't figure out for the the life of me how to sync audio. Couldn't find any decent tutorials or workflow guides online or on the BMD forums. After enough "right clicking" I finally found it.

As someone who regularly teaches courses in both After Effects and Motion, I am often asked what the differences are, and what application is better. One of the primary differences between the two is the use of Keyframes in After Effects and the use of Behaviors in Motion. This article explores one of my favorite behavior workflows in Motion, its called Parameters.

Here is an overview tutorial video I did on Film Impact’s Transition Pack 1. Having discovered these wonderful transitions some months ago, I use that frequently on client work I do in Premiere Pro since I migrated my bigger projects from FCP 7. These cross platform transitions are a must have for any current and...

The Rise of Writing Credits in Documentaries

While a documentarian taking a writing credit for narration rarely raises eyebrows, nonfiction filmmakers are also beginning to consider the behind-the-scenes structuring of their films to be a type of writing. The trend, which is being shepherded by the Writers Guild, a union representing television and film writers, has some documentary film editors and directors worried that it threatens to redefine their job descriptions and confuse viewers, who may believe that a documentary that has...
