It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Apple released its "industry changing" video editing software Final Cut Pro X and upon tinkering with it a little, most video editors around the world screamed in outrage.

For those of us fascinated by the evolution of editing technology, the Final Cut Pro X release is the gift that keeps on giving. Kanen Flowers has reinvigorated his long-dormant podcast, "That Post Show" (on iTunes), and the episode released yesterday covering FCP X a month after the launch, includes Mike J...

I downloaded Lion the day it was released. Not onto my main system - I set up a separate Snow Leopard Boot drive and upgraded this. I’m not too worried about new features or functionality, the big issue to me is does Final Cut Pro 7 and the rest of the Studio work fine.

An astonishing amount of the work that gets done in After Effects is theme and repetition work. You create something, and then there is the need to create 1, 2, 10 or 147 more of them, and for each to be similar yet unique.

Arri Alexa Firmware v4 is now live and in the wild. Among the many cool new features is the ability to load LUT's, or "Looks" as Arri calls them, into the camera. These Looks can either be applied non-destructively to any of the camera's monitor paths or can be "baked in" to the on-board ProRes recording...

Color Grading Central has posted a series of free training videos for color grading in Final Cut Pro X. The site's founder, Denver Riddle, was inspired to create it when he realized that there wasn't a central location for colorists to talk about and learn their craft. Says Riddle, "MOST Colorists are self taught, so take advantage of whatever learning resources there are that are available and put some mileage on, in the chair and on the control surface."

Over the last couple of weeks there's been some buzz about a KickStarter campaign for an Open-Source video editor called Novacut. After reading the page and some of the associated links (see below) I was curious about the project, and managed to talk to Lead Developer & Project Visionary Jason DeRose about this interesting project. As of today, the project is more than half way to their USD25,000 goal.
