It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

We know it's a sacrilegious thing to say, but when you hear this film buff out and see the raw footage, he seems to have quite the point.

Neil Breen's directorial craft should be framed as bold, unconventional, and thought-provoking. Few people working today can match his style, and it might just be because of what he doesn't do.

When you open an NLE for the first time, it's easy to be overwhelmed and excited by all of the tools and functions contained within it. Software like Adobe Premiere, Final Cut, Avid, Lightworks, and DaVinci Resolve are chock full of features that can help you turn your raw footage into beautiful pieces of cinematic art—or help you turn it into a shlocky mess. In this video, editor Justin Odisho shows you how to avoid making not-so-great decisions while editing so you can produce more pro-level...

Today's cameras, even the ones in smartphones, are capable of recording high frame rates at pretty decent resolutions (at least 720p). What does this mean? Slow motion for pretty much everyone! However, a lot of entry level cameras only get as high as 60 fps, which is definitely slow(er) motion than the standard 24 fps and 30 fps, but it certainly doesn't produce that real buttery smooth, honey-like slow mo you typically see in today's videos.

A viral video created for Netflix to promote their hit show, Stranger Things. The concept was to create an authentic 1983 newscast that would look as if it could fit perfectly into the show. We wanted to include the typical ‘news pans’ during the broadcast … when the camera pans to create negative space where the picture in picture image will appear, which meant shooting a locked off 16x9 frame size at 4K at 29.97fps. Later in post, this was cropped to 480i to keep frame size of standard d...

There are many polarizing debates in the world of technology and video editing, and software is no exception. Final Cut Pro X and Adobe Premiere Pro are some of the most popular tools for the job and therefore both have their diehard fans. But if you want to make an objective decision about which to use yourself, what are some factors you should consider?

We're so fortunate as filmmakers to work in an industry that doesn't require a formal education, but like all other professions, we must prove to our potential employers and collaborators that we are capable of doing the job we want to be hired to do.
