To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

As Karl completed giving a presentation to a large audience at NAB, I asked him if he'd provide a similar walk through for PVC online. It's a long video (15 minutes) but very worth watching in my opinion.

NAB 2011: Adobe Ups The Ante In The NLE Wars

Without an update in years, Final Cut Pro users were feeling frustrated by the lack of love Steve Jobs has been showing them. Adobe has capitalized on this by quietly but steadily improving its Creative Suite, especially in regards to Premiere Pro and After Effects. With the release of CS5 last year, they smartly targeted DSLR filmmakers, who want to be able to work natively with their H.264 files.

I generally try to be measured and reasonable in my posts here – however, I can contain myself no longer. I apologize in advance for the tirade I'm about to embark upon, but I've had it with this FCPX nonsense. This will be a full-on rant mostly as a rebuttal to this one post on Gizmodo.

I've just returned from the tenth anniversary Final Cut Pro Supermeet, that raucous, always entertaining and informative gathering of Final Cut Pro users held as an evening event during NAB. This year, in front of some 1,400 attendees, Apple chose to announce its forthcoming update, Final Cut Pro X. Billed as a sneak peek, this hour-long demo began with the obligatory history of Final Cut Pro, its ground-breaking features and impressive list of users in every production realm, from...

I am an Avid girl, there should be no question about that. With all the chatter going on about the impending release of FCPX, I decided to put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard as it were) and express my feelings for Avid in sonnet form. I thereby bring to you forthwith.... Ode to Avid. Enjoy!

An Eclectic NAB: Dailies, NLEs, and Stereo 3D

The 2011 NAB show floor was more eclectic than ever, hosting demos of single-body stereo 3D cameras and bleeding-edge DI tools alongside sexy glimpses of new Thunderbolt storage devices, iPad dailies and color-correction, and, well, that makeshift tattoo booth outside the big Red tent.
