To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Automatic Duck has had a knack for developing tools that simply work and do the necessity "glue tasks" that NLE designers consistently ignore. They are clearly known as the standard for robust timeline translation, but in the course of that development, the company created a valuable offshoot in its Media Copy program. Originally just a "side" product, Automatic Duck decided to develop it further in its own right and has recently released Media Copy 3.0.

In this tutorial, we'll begin a two-part project constructing a cool looking news intro composition. In part one, I'll show you some texture techniques, as well as using a combination of Mographs's Plain Effector and Delay effector to achieve some really smooth, really nice text animating into view. I'll also introduce my Softbox preset for Cinema 4D that I constructed inspired by GreyScale Gorilla's (no legal issues here - 100% self made).

By now everyone who’s ever edited a frame of video and has a web connection knows that Apple recently held an small, secret, invitation-only meeting at their headquarters in Cupertino where they previewed the next version of Final Cut Pro. This was an extremely unusual move as Apple rarely ever demos any of their products before they ship. The only real word that has come across from this meeting was a blurb on TechCrunch and a blog post from Larry Jordan.

"Master Metadata for Post-Production." http://www.larryjordan.biz/sem/webinar_2010b.php#mar02 Metadata can be used for tracking media content, usage and rights management, but metadata – log notes – can also drive post production by automating tasks that aren’t a part of the creative process. Metadata driven post production frees editors to focus on creative outcomes. Nowhere is this more important than in Final Cut Pro.
