To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

This probably isn’t the usual article on a piece of non-linear editing software. There will be no discussion of professional workflows and how it’s used to create broadcast television or feature films. But rather it’s a discussion of how a modest beginning, dabbling with a new piece of software and one of its signature features has grown into more than just a passing curiosity.

I am always on the lookout for things that can make my life easier... sleep in a can, comfortable shoes, great software. If you use Final Cut Pro and After Effects... do I have a find for you! I just finished a new book called Video Made on a Mac, and in the process of writing about Motion Graphics workflows, I’ve discovered an absolute gem, from a little place called Popcorn Island.

Bill Warner is the man who had the vision, he's the man who made this happen. In this, the third episode of a five part series, Bill explains the frustration he felt at the linear editing process in a tape-based world and how he, turned this frustration to find a solution to the problem. As a result the world of editing has never been the same. Where once tape-based suites and film cutting rooms dominated, now the electronic non-linear way has become the accepted process.

Useful Tools for Editors: TCR Plus

Along the same lines as the recent useful tool Clip Info Titler is another option that can achieve a similar result: TCR Plus from Spherico. Like Clip Info Titler, TCR Plus uses Final Cut Pro’s super handy XML export and import capabilities to add a filter to clips in a sequence that can display a lot of useful information about the clip.

Companies that make effect plug-ins for FCP, Motion and After Effects are looking to companies like Noise Industries to harness the power of the FXFactory architecture to create their plug-ins.

Sorry for the LONG delay in posting anything. Tough finding things to post about. I will have more soon, I am just in the middle of a project, not done yet, so I can’t post a tip that I’ll be using on that. And not much earth shattering in terms of workflow or tips have come across my desk. Although I owe a few reviews...I’ll be doing those soon.

Avoiding Final Cut’s Rendering

November 5, 2010, 10:03 AM

http://jeffvlog.wordpress.com/2010/11/05/avoiding-...

Officially, Final Cut Pro doesn’t support the media files produced by DLSRs like the Canon 7D or Nikon D90. That’s not entirely true; you can import those files into a Final Cut project without doing conversion, and add them to a Timeline quite happily. The annoying part is that no matter how you set up the Project, Final Cut will want you to Render the Timeline before it will play it back in real time in the preview window.

A Plea for Help with Premiere CS5

November 5, 2010, 10:02 AM

http://postfifthpictures.com/2010/11/a-plea-for-he...

I keep getting this error and having Premiere CS5 crash on me. I’m editing native 7D footage mostly. I can’t figure out the problem and I’m about 85% done with the project. This obviously doesn’t help my opinion of Premiere Pro and I will write more about my positive and negative experiences later.
