To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Many ProVideo Coalition magazine readers will recall my review of the excellent PROMISE Pegasus Thunderbolt RAID from January 2012 and its related articles. At NAB I spoke with a few manufacturers who were showing smaller, lower priced Thunderbolt RAIDs but to date, none have sent me any review units so far.

Transitions are great! They can be used for multiple things including advancing in time, go to another subject or scene, and more. The problem with most transitions is they tend to be rather flat or 2D. But, with XEffects 3D Transitions from Idustrial Revolution, you can add a third dimension to your videos. XEffects 3D...

Understanding Resolution

OK, prepare to be temporarily confused (but not for long). A lot of terms are used to describe image resolution. The problem is that many people (and companies) use the wrong terms, which (understandably) leads to a great deal of confusion. Let's take a quick look at the most common terms and their accurate meanings.

What is Bit Depth?

Besides resolution (the number of pixels) and color mode (the way colors are processed), one other variable affects image quality. Bit depth measures how much color is available for display or printing of each pixel. A greater bit depth means each pixel contains more information for describing the color. A pixel with a bit depth of 1 can display the pixel as either black or white.

Western Digital has announced that it's expanding its selection of high capacity and high speed external storage solutions for Mac and PC users with the introduction of the My Book Thunderbolt Duo 8TB and My Book 4TB external hard drive models. While such drives often start in branded products like these, this time WD is leveraging...
