To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

As of the release of Final Cut Pro X version 10.0.6, native REDCODE RAW and the REDROCKET card are fully supported as of FCP 10.0.6. This is the R3D video file format that is proprietary to RED brand cameras. There are some neat tricks to using REDCODE RAW clips natively in FCP X. In this article I’ll walk you through what you'll need to know if you want to edit REDCODE RAW media natively in FCP X.

How Transparent Does a Freelancer Need 2 Be?

October 29, 2012, 02:52 PM

Transparency is the buzzword that everyone conducting business online seems to be focused on. We’re all supposed to be open and share even the smallest details about how we do business and when we screw up, mostly in hopes of building better business relationships.

Review of After Effects CS6: Learn by Video

I found After Effects to be intimidating in spite of my strong Adobe Flash background but the Adobe After Effects CS6 Learn by Video training course from video2brain gave me a good solid base upon which to build. The authors Todd Kopriva and Angie Taylor share the instruction with Kopriva covering the technical aspects of the software and Taylor covering the creative.

Apple has dropped a new release of Final Cut Pro X. 10.0.6 came down from the cloud on Tuesday, October 23 and delivered on the new features that Apple discussed back in April at NAB 2012. Dual viewers, RED camera support, better audio tools and MXF support are all now a reality in some form or another.

Apple has released FCP X 10.0.6, perhaps the most far reaching of all updates since the released of FCP X in June, 2011. Responding to user feature requests as well as to many of the complaints voiced since the initial software release, FCP X 10.0.6 incorporates a number of major additions and fixes.

G-DRIVE 2TB External Drive Review

The G-DRIVE is a 7200RPM hard drive packaged in an attractive aluminum case / heat sink with USB 3.0 and Firewire 400/800 connectivity. We love most everything about the design except the incredibly cheap power supply. The wall wart doesn't do this product justice.

Back in April 2012 at NAB in Las Vegas , the USA-based AJA first announced and showed their USD295 T-TAP out-only audio/video Thunderbolt interface, which makes a lot of sense in the age of file-based video production.
