To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Visual Editing in Spectral Field

The Spectral Frequency Display in Adobe Audition is beautiful to look at, to be sure. But it gives you insight into your audio clips that a waveform view can't match. For example, in the Spectral Frequency Display, you can see individual harmonics and overtones, and their relative strength. You can see noise. Best of all, you can edit what you see using graphic editing tools with which you’re probably already familiar, and make edits to your audio with near-surgical precision.

The number one interface rule for Final Cut Pro is Select Something, then Do Something to It. While this may not be as deep as I think, therefore I am this interface rule will stand you in good stead as you figure out how to do something.

Yep, you heard right. Wes Plate, owner and main guru at Automatic Duck was recently hired by Adobe. He and his dad have graciously decided that since they cannot support the product line anymore, they wanted to donate their products to the community. I know lots of users are still using FCP7 and Wes even has a few products for porting to FCPX. Just visit the Automatic Duck website and get what you need.

Last night the Boston Final Cut Pro User Group hosted the 2nd annual Boston SuperMeet at the Stuart Street Playhouse in downtown Boston. It was a dark and stormy night, with the threat of the first snow of the winter, so it was a great night to be indoors with a bunch of other video production nerds.

Those who have decided to stay with Apple for their editing software are making a tough decision for their next project – legacy Final Cut Pro or Final Cut Pro X. A little more than a month ago, I asked the readers of Final Cut Whiz which one they plan on using. The results may...

iExpressions: as convenient as plug-ins

iExpressions from Mamoworld combines the power of After Effects expressions with the convenience of effect plug-ins. They allow you to use expressions without writing any code—each iExpression comes with an interface to control everything using adjustable parameters. iExpressions seems like something out of Stu Mashwitz blog on the potential of a nodes property panel, but it's just script UI for each expression.

After Effects Script of the Week

Past (and future) scripts of the week involve custom UI’s and detailed feature sets. We're a few months into this series and there are some huge ones I haven't even covered yet, because I also want to give weight to the ones that simply convert half a dozen steps into one.
