It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

A great deal of the look of the Timeline is controlled from an itty-bitty right-pointing arrow at the bottom of the Timeline. It is certainly not obvious, so look closely just to the right of the four-column track height bar chart.

On arrival at the Australian Broadcasting Commission, Ripponlea, as Acting Senior Film Editor, I found that the editors at ABV2. were not required to participate in the planning of any filming that they would have to edit. They complained to me that they were having to rescue too much material. One producer had belonged to...

Digital Rebellion has released a significant update to Cut Notes (USD7.99), their post-production note-taking app for iPad owners. Version 1.1 introduces automatic syncing with Final Cut Pro 7! This is major! The lack of sych was considered by most to be the previous version's only significant shortcoming. To use the new feature, both your iPad and Mac must be on the same WiFi network.

In my continuing effort to find a solid, reliable and affordable solution for long term archival of our editing projects, I have spent the last 12 months testing and creating a workflow for yet another product solution. Unlike when I reviewed the Cache~a a few years back (the positive review since removed from the site), I decided to spend a lot more time really running it through the paces. I learned my lesson the hard way with the Prime Cache and made changes to my review process.

If you're working with dual system sound (very common in DSLR workflow) you'll need to marry the camera footage with an external audio recording. The easiest way to sync is to let Final Cut Pro X try to do it automatically. As long as you have sufficient levels in your reference audio, we find the process is successful most of the time. The process works best when you need to sync a singe video file to a single audio file.

This keyboard shortcut quickly makes a clip invisible or the opposite. To quickly toggle clip visibility on and off, select the clip, or clips, you want to hide and press Control and B.

How many Final Cut Pro X editors haven't used or even installed Motion5? Well if you are one of them then this episode of Macbreak Studio is a good place to start to understand the creative possibilities the app could bring.
