It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

By now you've heard that Wes Plate has joined the Adobe Product Marketing Team. For those who might not know exactly who this guy is, he’s been the guy in the industry for years who has made various production tools talk to each other. And not just a simple, move parts of my projects into something else, but help the apps talk to each other in a way that brought about very meaningful creative collaborations between artists no matter how what they used.

In the next part at our introductory look at Apple's Motion 5, we take a look at a great not so hidden feature in Motion 5, and that's the Heads Up Display (HUD). We'll also talk about how Generators are going to help us create our Lower Third; then look at all the Masking options, and how we can mask our Generator to create our Lower Third. Again, Motion 4 users will get a great deal out of this training series as well.

We were so pleased whilst watching this video of Gary Adcock from the recent IBC 2011 show in Amsterdam. Right from the off, he gets Final Cut Pro X and his 15 minutes is well worth a view.

Final Cut Pro version 10.0.1 includes an updated version of the Ticker title effect. I've come up with some additional improvements. The most useful one is that I've linked the size of the background of the ticker to the font size of the text (note that the font size control in the Text tab of the inspector is disabled – use the text size control in the Title tab instead).

Some editors like Final Cut Pro X, others do not. For those who are not in support of FCPX, they have chosen to use a different non-linear editor. In a recent poll, I asked readers which editing application they are using if it's not Final Cut X. Here are the results: Looks like a vast...

You finally have the hang of this multigrouping business, don't you? You have been syncing and all of those audio waveforms are nicely in sync. You zoom out from your last sync point to take a look at your sequence as a whole and see a whole bunch of numbers at the end of all...

I received an email from an editor recently, a long-time Avid user, which started more or less like this: I'm using MC5 on a TV series. But I really don't like it. And the other editors on the show all have the same impression. He went on to explain how much he dislikes the FCP...
