It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

OK, while I am also transitioning some projects to Avid Media Composer (that I know fairly well, having used it for 10 years before I switched to FCP), I am also transitioning to Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 as well. Because in playing with it, I find it VERY similar to Final Cut Pro in many...

Last week, I showed you how to quickly write a plugin for Final Cut using the built in FXScript. If you've done any kind of work with it, you've probably noticed how quickly you run into its limitations. At that point, you're ready to move up to FXPlug. FXPlug is Apple's SDK for creating filter...

OK, I can finally come up for air. August was a VERY busy month for me. On top of my regular day job, I took on two side jobs (after hours work). One was really easy…online a 23 min reality show. That was straightforward and I was able to do it in two four-hour nights.

Panasonic announced the AVCCAM Importer back in April, but only just got around to releasing it. The AVCCAM Importer is actually a component that adds support for direct playback of AVCCAM files within QuickTime. With it installed you can play AVCCAM files inside the QuickTime player, or even within Final Cut Pro 7, without conversion.

Today, the Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 (5.5.1) update was released. Soon, but not yet, you’ll be able to install this update by choosing Help Updates. For now, you must directly download the update packages from the download pages for Windows or Mac OS, using the Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 5.5.1 update link. You must choose the correct patcher based on your original installation type—electronic download or DVD.
