To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Workflows at Warp Speed

In a recent conversation with Roberto Blake we learned the world of Adobe’s products can be overwhelming to design teams. “I’m frequently asked to help design teams create better workflows,” he said. He went on to explain how his clients hire him to consult on their existing workflows, tool set and processes: I built my first website in 1997 with Microsoft Notepad. I sketched the layout on a Five-Star notebook with a No. 2 pencil. Imagine a littered page of rectangles, squares, tab...

ScopeBox displays video scopes, regardless of whether your clip is processed with EditReady — before you transcode them — or Final Cut Pro X, Premiere Pro and other apps. It does so via ScopeLink, a clever system that allows ScopeBox to integrate with a slew of supported applications, including SpeedGrade, various versions of After Effects, Prelude and Pomfort Silverstack. In addition, ScopeBox provides scopes for live sources such as BlackMagic Design and Aja input equipment, and for movie ...

In order to recreate the maelstrom that split the oil tanker S.S. Pendleton in two, leading to a dramatic U.S. Coast Guard rescue operation in 1952, filmmaker Craig Gillespie (Lars and the Real Girl) relied on MPC for ninety-percent of the visual effects work in The Finest Hours with additional environmental support provided by Mr. X.

By Fergus Burnett I visited Sony HQ in Manhattan for their pre-NAB Show press conference recently. In a board room with tiny muffins, mini bagels and a great view of New York, we sat pleasantly for a few hours to learn about the direction the company is taking in 2016. At Autodesk's REAL2016 conference, there was a bit of technology that might become of some use for film and video editorial ingest. The conference, which brings together reality capture and computing technology to service the architecture, industrial design and civil engineering communities, often overlaps with other fields. It turns out that the construction industry also needs to sift through hours of source footage - in their case from construction sites looking for views of progress, in...
