The fight first broke into the open at the 2014 Sci Tech Academy Awards. Digital Domain 3.0 employee Greg LaSalle and three others had just accepted a technical achievement award for their use of MOVA, a prized facial-motion-capture technology. Absent from the stage that night was Steve Perlman, a Silicon Valley inventor who owned the patents to the MOVA tech and had once employed LaSalle.
