To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Is is real, or is it After Effects?

That’s what I found myself wondering as I watched Supralude‘s That Night In Williamsburg. He won’t spill many beans, but what do you think? Were those lights added in post, and how can you tell one way or the other?

Trapcode Planet with After Effects

2012 saw effects plugin company Red Giant blur the line between advertisement and compelling short film with Plot Device and Time Warp. But as good as both those shorts were, if I’m honest, the demonstrations which really raise my excitement levels are those that are developed in bedrooms with a mighty staff of one.

CS6: Filmstrip Animation and More

One of the many animations I enjoy creating are moving filmstrips. I’ve found many uses for this animation over the last few years across various projects. Learning how to create this in Final Cut Pro 7, I’ve been able to adapt the same concepts over to Premiere Pro.

Adobe offering CS2 for free, but didn't mean to

January 11, 2013, 08:05 PM

Earlier this week Adobe made a surprise move by putting its Creative Suite 2 software, as well as individual programs like Photoshop CS2 and Illustrator CS2, up for download on its website along the corresponding serial numbers. Initially it was believed the company got tired of keeping the activation servers running to support legitimate installs of ~8 year-old software and decided to give it away. But that's only partly true.

Unexpected problem with Media Encoder

January 11, 2013, 07:50 AM

Recently, I was working on a project in Adobe Premiere which required exporting the Sequence as multiple sub-clips to .f4v format. Of course, as often happens, there was a problem with one of the exported clips, so I had to set it up in Premiere and re-export to Adobe Media Encoder.

Adobe Rumored Free CS2 Isn’t a Giveaway

This week the web has been buzzing over a rumor of Adobe offering the eight-year-old Creative Suite 2 software for free download to all, including Photoshop CS2. “Adobe releases Creative Suite 2 for free,” “Grab Photoshop and CS2 Absolutely Free,” and, “Free! Download Adobe Creative Suite 2, Photoshop CS2, or other Adobe software at no cost,” have read some of the headlines around the blogosphere.

Adobe Releases Full Creative Suite Online...

What could be better than free software? Well, a lot of things I guess, but I’ve never known anyone that would turn down an offer for free software (even when the legality of said free software is questionable). Some of you may have been following the news on the internet yesterday, but the Adobe site had been down for quite some time, so I’ve been waiting for the dust to settle a bit.
