Where to now? ...ProMax

April 17, 2013, 03:06 PM

What happens when the Apple Computer you have been using for several years begins to die. The power supply gives out or the motherboard stops working. Most people would say, just grab another mac off the shelf...

PC vs Mac?

February 19, 2013, 12:41 PM

If you want to start a giant flamewar online, you can always count on three things: HDR, Canon vs. Nikon, Android vs. Iphone, and PC vs. Mac. Try as people may, there still seems to be this lingering mindset that there are big differences in performance/productivity/creativity in owning one versus the other. There is also a great amount of debate that circles when we switch from one to another. For the most part – I get it. We are creatures of comparison, and we love being in tribes.

Apple's "disappointing" quarter... BUT!

February 7, 2013, 12:51 PM

In many of the financial press accounts of Apple's Q1 2013 results, the terms "disappointing" and "flat" were used to describe the company's performance. Well, as you can see in the graphic above from Statista, Apple's performance was far and away better than that of any other US company.

When is a console not a console?

February 7, 2013, 07:25 AM

I found the announcement of the ProcutX iPad control surface from Pixel Film Studios interesting. It allows control of FCPX from an iPad using a simplified user interface based on “High-end film editing consoles” including a jog/shuttle wheel.

ProCutX for iPad links with Final Cut Pro X

February 6, 2013, 03:45 PM

Final Cut Pro X is already a pretty great piece of software all on its own, but there might be some video gurus who wouldn't mind adding a little touch-based action to their current workflow. Here's where ProCutX comes in: the iPad app's claiming to give Mac vid editors a canvas where they can easily have access to many of FCPX's editing tools, including color grading and auto-correct, quick keywording, compound clip editing and import / export / rendering shortcuts.

Following the news that Apple is to discontinue its Mac Pro line in Europe due to new regulatory standards, Apple is reportedly prepping a new Mac Pro product for spring 2013. The news comes from Apple reseller France Systemes (via Mac4Ever & Macg.co), an Apple Authorized Reseller and Certified Education Center in France with 17 years in the business, which claimed in a recent newsletter to customers that Apple has confirmed the discontinuation of Mac Pros in the country would only be temporary.

And they have released PROCUTX, an app that allows you to remotely control FCP X from your iPad. This is pretty cool stuff!

Apple is... Apple's 9 definitions since 1995

February 5, 2013, 03:08 PM

Looking back over their press releases, it’s interesting to see how Apple has described itself over the years. When the text only changes a little, I’ve italicised additions: April 1995 “Apple Computer, Inc., a recognized pioneer and innovator in the information industry, creates powerful solutions based on easy to use personal computers, servers peripherals, software...

Final Cut Pro X Render Bug and Workaround

February 3, 2013, 04:21 PM

If you’re a trailblazing user of FCPX, 10.0.6 or newer, you may have noticed a bug: rendering your project after using certain effects leads to random frame glitches. According to Aharon Rabinowitz of Red Giant Software, the problem lies with FCPX and Apple. While Apple is aware of the issue, there has been no information on any upcoming patches.
