To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

FCP X 10.0.6: Sharing Made Simpler

December 13, 2012, 07:55 AM

http://www.macprovideo.com/hub/final-cut/fcp-x-100...

Prior to Final Cut Pro X 10.0.6, the Share menu existed on its own and let you convert your project into one or many kinds of outputs, one at a time. You had to send an entire project (a huge issue for many editors) and you had to wait for the export to complete before you could continue. All that just changed with 10.0.6.

All I want for Christmas is...

A lot has changed tech-wise in the last couple years when it comes to post-production needs. Things you used to think you needed to edit a movie (a giant, souped-up Mac Pro tower with a large, convoluted RAID system), are no longer necessary. So what exactly do you need nowadays to really get stuff done? Well, I run a full-on FCPX/DaVinci Resolve setup now in a couple different configurations at my company, We Make Movies: Post. It’s definitely not your traditional pro edit setup at this point...

Across the Lines: Editing in the Different NLEs

December 12, 2012, 07:12 AM

http://strypesinpost.com/2012/12/across-the-lines-...

In this day and age, many of us editors are starting to work on different NLEs quite frequently, so in this article, I am hoping to cross the great divide, and bridge the differences between the different NLEs, in terms of the edit keys and functions.

160 Mac minis into a single rackmount tower

When the Xserve joined the great server farm in the sky, Mac-minded datacenters everywhere were left without a true rackmountable computer; even the current Mac mini wasn't designed for those kinds of tight spaces.

Early Media Composer and Final Cut Pro promo video

December 8, 2012, 08:15 PM

http://provideocoalition.com/ssimmons/story/early-...

I got taken down into one of those You Tube time sucks the other day. It came courtesy of a couple of tweets by Rob G Wilson that pointed to some very old Avid Media Composer and Final Cut Pro promo videos. If you want to realize just how far...

What's the scene with FCP now?

December 8, 2012, 11:10 AM

http://neilsadwelkar.blogspot.ca/2012/12/whats-sce...

These are the commonest queries I get when the topic of an edit system comes up. So, here's the status on FCP 7 as of Dec 2012. And if the world really ends on the 21st Dec 2012, none of this will matter.
