To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Web and mobile video will soon get a boost thanks to H.265, a new video codec recently approved by the ITU. H.265, known as High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC), will deliver high-resolution video with half the bit rate of its predecessor, H.264.

Audio applications Lightworks Linux

I agree with this sentiment. Lightworks is primarily a video editing suite: designed by editors for editors, but not an audio editor. Of course, video does usually come with an audio track or two and any video editor will need to be able to do basic audio effects like EQ and crossfade and Lightworks has both.

Every friday we post a few interesting videos to enjoy for the weekend. This friday, I am pleased to share some incredible footage. For those that don’t know, Sally Menke was Quentin Tarantino’s editor since Reservoir Dogs. Tragically, she died in 2010 and without any in-depth interviews or insight into her working process...

Video Editors Choose Dell for Performance...

Over the last two years, I’ve worked on numerous heavy, professional-grade video editing projects like live streaming Lollapalooza, ACL Fest and JazzFest music festivals. A project like a music festival is a tremendously demanding beast as the timelines are extremely tight, as little as a few hours, but the quality of the final product must still be as high as a full blown production. This is why having a fast, high quality production cycle is critical to success and why video editors demand.....

Expanding the video cloud

If you were at NAB or IBC in 2012, you may have seen us exhibiting on the Panasonic stand to demonstrate our unique cloud based, tapeless workflow. Hopefully that was a clue that we‘d be working even more closely with Panasonic and now that we’re able to talk more openly about the partnership, here are a few more details.

Is video editing in the cloud real?

January 17, 2013, 07:40 AM

http://broadcastengineering.com/blog/video-editing...

In the past, video editing has always been tied to a place, the edit bay. The Moviolas and Steenbecks of film were joined by linear tape editing suites. In the days of quad and C-format, these were large and very expensive. Non-linear editing, typified by Avid, transformed the process of editing video from a linear process to non-linear, much more like film editing. Even terms like “bins” were borrowed from film.
