It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

If you’ve been following the recent controversies surrounding Pixar and its treatment of employees, you have cause to be worried about the future of the animation studio. But the above is a good point for Catmull to make. He explains that any “mission statement” for a business should be an “ongoing dialogue among employees,” as Stolzoff describes it.

This is a fascinating look at the incredible (forgive me) attention to detail these artists put into a special effect that many of us took for granted on first viewing. Even if you recently rewatched the first Incredibles, which came out 14 years ago, you probably didn’t notice that much of a difference between the effects and character models of 2004 to this new sequel, which evolves just about everything.

IT’S A GIVEN THAT PIXAR has cracked the code for calibrating the perfect feeling-all-the-feels moment: That instant where the narrative taps into its audience’s deepest emotions and reduces it to tears. It’s there in “Toy Story 3.” “Up,” of course. “Inside Out.”

In addition to working on feature films, several animation studios have over the years dived into animated shorts, often as platforms for new directors to gain experience and also to test out new animation tools and techniques on a smaller production.

Pixar has a storied history with the annual U.S. SIGGRAPH conference — it was where Pixar first wowed audiences by releasing The Adventures of André & Wally B (1984), Luxo, Jr. (1986), and many other shorts and technical presentations (including this year's experimental short, Purl). Due to the many "wow" moments, we're always excited to see what will be released.

The SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival started as an annual showcase of advances in computer graphics and since then has come to celebrate the rise of computer graphics as a medium for storytelling, not just in animation, but also in visual effects for movies and games.
