It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

In this Cinema 4D tutorial, I show you some spline modeling tips. The advantage of spline modeling over polygonal modeling is that you can get to a result a lot quicker and keep things parametric. For example, you can Lathe a spline to create a glass or you can Loft some splines to create a baseball bat. Whether you Sweep, Extrude, Loft, or Lathe a spline the following techniques apply to all of them.

Much was said about Windows 8 when it arrived in October 2012. Amongst all the hype, fog and shouting it was quite difficult to track down any decent information on whether it actually worked well as a platform for professional, creative work. Microsoft had taken a bold leap in trying to bring together mouse driven and touch driven interfaces, but for most mouse users the touch elements just seemed to get in the way.

And thus you know that before installing any modification, it is good to make a back-up of the whole Logic app in its default (Apple) state. A good way is to use the command “compress” (in the right-click menu), that is, make a zip of it.

A few months ago, we shared an excellent short animation that detailed the ins and outs of what exactly an experienced editor does. Although we only briefly mentioned it at the time, that video was an advertisement for Inside the Edit, a soon-to-be-released online creative editing course.

The biggest concern for the computer musician/producer is what happens if it all falls apart? The experience of Mac users tends to be that the “Genius’” at the Apple store don’t know a whole lot about Pro Tools, MIDI sync, sound-to-picture or plug-in incompatibilities. Shoppers of a Dell, HP or Tesco branded PC have a similar experience but in less groovy and relaxed surroundings.

As of today, the functionality of Project Parfait is available in Adobe’s Creative Cloud as “Extract”. The functionality and UI should feel totally familiar to Parfait users. We want Parfait users to transition over to using Extract in Creative Cloud as soon as possible, so, here is some information that should help you out.

Welcome to part two of our look at audio control room acoustics and the reasons we expend so much effort to build great sounding rooms. In part one we looked at how low frequencies and reflections behave in both large and small rooms. This time we’re going to take a high-level look at the topic of isolation and see that it is the foundation upon which audio control rooms are built.
