To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

There’s been a lot of noise about the Avid S6 but for many the Avid S3L control surface is an attractive proposition as a studio controller, it really is a star in the Avid product range.

Book Review: The Art of Frozen

http://www.awn.com/animationworld/book-review-the-...

This is the umpty-umpth The Art of … coffee-table art book about the making of a modern animated cinematic feature masterpiece. How many have there been? In 2013 alone, I’ve reviewed five; in 2012, at least a half-dozen. And this doesn’t count all of the wonderful animated theatrical features for which there have not been art books, like Despicable Me 2 and Free Birds in 2013.

Can't Open a PowerPoint to Import into FCP

March 24, 2014, 09:27 PM

I have a powerpoint that's a .pptx PowerPoint file. That means it was created in PowerPoint 2007 or later. Now, .ppt is for earlier versions than I think 2007. A client sent me a link to a PowerPoint that was to be used in an edit and for some reason QuickView nor Keynote could open it. Keynote threw out an "Import Error".

Some in the VFX community are going starry-eyed over some potential carve out for VFX in the CA film subsidy bill. Some have been given the impression that if we continue support for the legal effort to place anti-subsidy duties on subsidized visual effects these provisions will be thrown out and it will be all ADAPT’s fault!

Metadata Whitepaper From Optimity Advisors

March 20, 2014, 12:44 PM

http://digitalassetmanagementnews.org/taxonomy-met...

Optimity Advisers, who count a number of DAM luminaries among their staff (including, David Lipsey and John Horodyski) have recently published a whitepaper Metadata Matters. They have decided to call them ‘Orange Papers’, presumably because everyone else uses ‘Whitepaper’ and their logo is orange too (fortunately the text is not on an orange background). The document is written by John Horodyski and covers a number of areas within the wider metadata subject...
