It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Dolby has been working for six years to revolutionise broadcast television. Unsurprisingly they call it their Dolby Vision. The idea was to simulate the dynamic range of modern cameras and try and present as near to that as possible to the television viewer. With new Dolby Vision encoded UHDTV sets arriving this year they are already ahead of their competitors.

Submit Short Description (The development of CG animation film world is very much changed. Scenes in the film have become so realistic that made it less and less films are made without the use of computer graphics. Many movies rely on 3D models and visual effects and without them these films could not possibly not do. It can be clearly seen in the movies where monsters and monsters are doing, but also in movies and documentaries about the long-extinct animals.

There have been a couple of interesting articles about DAM workflow recently which I have been intending to get around to discussing on DAM News for a few weeks. One of these is by Roger Howard with the title, Workflow Doesn’t.

When I was just starting out in the video production industry around the beginning of this century, there was an overwhelming sense to me of a workflow being shoving a square peg into a round hole. The facilities I interned inside or toured were relying on hardware with very specific requirements...and a lot of it didn't really work as expected.

The new mask capabilities of FCPX in 10.2 were immediately a godsend: the video I was working on at the time immediately benefitted, and in that respect it was as helpful as the arrival of Libraries in 10.1. (Ripple Training have a great overview of the new masking features.)

This year I combined my love of Las Vegas and crowds, and attended the NAB Show. I tweeted up a storm during the show, and collected all that noise on Storify — but I also wanted to summarize my impressions here.
