It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

First, congratulations. You’ve received an offer! Now, the more difficult news: The job search process isn’t quite over yet. It’s time to think over the offer, compare it with your other options, and most importantly: negotiate.

Adobe is working on a new video-editing product called Project Rush that brings three tools -- Premiere Pro, Audition and After Effects -- together in one place. With Project Rush, you'll be able to edit the color of your videos, improve the sound quality, build a title sequence, add some stock footage and publish it to whatever platform you'd like without having to leave Rush.

This season's most intense television scenes had to be tenderly crafted in the editing room. Whether it was the pivotal This Is Us episode that finally revealed the death at the center of the NBC drama's story, the chilling opening moments of The Handmaid's Tale's second season or the final episode of The Looming Tower that took viewers back to 9/11, each of these scenes required a sensitive touch when cutting the footage together in order to send viewers on the right emotional journey.

I take my jobs as editor and as a father very seriously, but it is also important to note that I am happy. Here are some things that I have learned over the years. I have made mistakes in every one of these rules, but I try every day to be better.

It has a been a dream for some time now that the iPad had a serious NLE available for it. But there have been a few stumbling blocks that have prevented such a thing from happening, at least in a way that makes a real impact. For starters some may say that Apple’s closed eco system and the limited on board storage of the iPad itself is quite a restrictive set of factors. And they would be right, but only up to a point.

At a time when a few humorists are doing some of the most important journalistic work on TV (John Oliver and Bassem Youssef come to mind), Conan O’Brien decided, right then and there, to travel to Haiti in order to set the record straight. It wasn’t an unprecedented move—he’d previously done shows from Mexico, Israel, Armenia, and more. What was different was the time frame.

There are fewer temporary workers today than there were in 2005, according to a much anticipated report on contingent workers from the Bureau of Labor Statistics released this morning. The new data offers some insight into the number of people who rely on temporary work for income, but experts say it may not paint a full picture of the changing nature of work.

We've been talking a lot about emotional response recently on RedShark with reference to pristine imagery. But it seems that sometimes the worse the footage looks, the better the audience response. And now you can try it for yourself with Rarevisions' VHS Camcorder app!
